How Electrak powers the Walkie Talkie

In and around central London, Electrak is being specified as the power distribution method of choice. From St Paul’s to the Lloyd’s building, the Gherkin to the Shard, the capital’s silhouette has been transformed almost beyond recognition over the last fifty years. Standing at 525 ft tall, one of the more recent additions is 20 Fenchurch Street, better known as the Walkie Talkie, bucks the trend of the traditional tapering skyscraper model and instantly catches the eye.

As with so many of today’s new buildings, the interior of the Walkie Talkie is just as advanced as the exterior. Whilst not immediately obvious, it actually features one of the most efficient and flexible methods of workstation power distribution.

A number of Legrand products were specified by multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, Hilson Moran, with a view to delivering a power distribution system to act as the power and communications backbone for the Walkie Talkie’s lighting infrastructure. This included over four kilometres of Legrand’s Electrak Buscom trunking system, which was installed as part of the Category A fit-out throughout the building’s 34 floors.
